A complete used EV battery pack can serve another 8–15 years as stationary home storage. Here is how the process works, what you need to buy, and where the risks are.
The short version. Buy a complete EV battery pack (Tesla Model 3, BMW i3, Nissan Leaf, VW ID.4, etc). Buy a compatible hybrid inverter (Deye, SOFAR, GoodWe, SMA and similar). Buy a BMS-EV controller pre-configured for your specific battery + inverter combination. Wire it in place of a wall battery — the controller keeps the vehicle's original BMS in place and speaks the inverter's protocol. Total investment is typically €4 000–€8 000 for 40–90 kWh of usable storage.

Pricing methodology: sample size n = 30–50 completed listings per pack family; 25th–75th percentile range shown (median available on request); prices exclude VAT, shipping and import duty; capacity basis is nominal kWh as-new (actual usable capacity is typically 85–92% of nominal for mid-life SoH packs); listings collected 2026-09-01 to 2026-09-18 from pan-EU sources (DE, NL, FR, PL, UK; local currencies normalised to EUR at ECB reference rates on the day of listing).

Match its DC voltage range to your pack topology: whole OEM pack retained (~350 V nominal for Leaf, ~355 V for Tesla NCA / ~340 V LFP, ~355 V for BMW i3, ~400 V for VW MEB — pair with HV hybrid inverters) or modules re-configured into a 48 V LV bank (typical DIY route for Leaf 24/30/40 kWh — pair with LV inverters).

The right pack depends on your energy usage and budget. A rough rule of thumb: for a typical European household consuming 8–15 kWh/day, a 30–60 kWh usable pack lasts through most winter days without solar contribution.
