Hyundai/Kia E-GMP Battery with Deye Inverter — Integration Guide

Only the 400 V (96s) variants of E-GMP packs pair with the standard Deye SUN HP3 hybrid inverter family. The mainstream 697 V (192s) packs require a Ferroamp EnergyHub or a DC-DC step-down and are covered on the battery reference page.

Integration in one sentence. An E-GMP pack in its 96s / ~355 V nominal configuration — used in some regional Ioniq 5 Standard Range and select Kia EV6 variants — pairs with any Deye SUN HP3 hybrid inverter (5–30 kW three-phase) via a BMS-EV controller. The BMS-EV controller reads the Hyundai Motor Group CAN protocol, synthesises the IG3 wake signal, sequences precharge, and emits Pylontech-compatible CAN frames on the Deye's battery port. 192s / 697 V E-GMP packs are NOT compatible with the Deye SUN HP3 family — the pack's full-charge voltage exceeds the Deye SUN HP3 5–25 kW range's 700 V DC ceiling (larger 29.9–50 kW models accept up to 800 V).

Verify a pack's cell configuration before purchase — 96s regional variants are less common on the used market and can be misidentified as 192s from external appearance. The MSD label and BMS firmware ID confirm the configuration.

The SUN-50K-SG01HP3 accepts up to 800 V DC and is a possible option for 192s E-GMP packs but requires a separate integration profile (still in engineering evaluation as of 2026-09).

400 V vs 800 V distinction — the critical constraint

This is the single most important point in the E-GMP + Deye pairing. The Deye SUN HP3 has an battery voltage range of 160–700 V DC (SUN 5–25K SG01HP3-EU per official datasheet) or 160–800 V DC (SUN 29.9–50K SG01HP3). A 192s E-GMP pack's full-charge voltage is 697 V. Exceeding 500 V will either:

BMS-EV controllers configured for E-GMP + Deye validate the pack voltage during precharge and refuse to close contactors if pack voltage exceeds 480 V (20 V safety margin). A 192s pack presented to a Deye-profile controller will therefore fail commissioning rather than cause hardware damage. For 192s packs, choose Ferroamp EnergyHub instead.

CAN mapping — E-GMP to Pylontech

Deye SUN HP3 speaks a Pylontech-compatible dialect on its battery CAN port. BMS-EV reads Hyundai Motor Group frames and re-encodes them:

The controller also generates the vehicle-side IG3 wake signal (12 V pulse on the pack's wake line) to bring the BMS out of deep sleep — this is required for the pack to answer CAN queries at all.

Engineering values below are examples. Final conductor cross-section and protective-device sizing must be calculated for the actual pack, maximum current, cable length, installation method, ambient temperature and applicable local standards (IEC 60364-7-712, VDE-AR-N 4105, NEC 690).

How do I identify a 96s versus 192s E-GMP pack before purchasing it?

The MSD label on the pack shows the maximum working voltage — 96s packs read "410 V DC max", 192s packs read "697 V DC max". The BMS firmware ID also encodes the configuration but is only readable once the pack is powered. Purchase with a written guarantee from the seller.

Can I use a Deye SUN-50K-SG01HP3 with a 192s E-GMP pack?

The 50K accepts up to 800 V DC, which covers the 697 V full-charge voltage of a 192s pack — hardware-wise it is possible. As of 2026-09 the BMS-EV firmware profile for that specific combination is still in engineering validation; contact us before ordering. For production-ready 192s installations use Ferroamp EnergyHub.

Is a 96s E-GMP pack really 400 V, or is that approximate?

96s NMC cells at nominal 3.7 V give 355 V nominal, ~270 V empty, ~410 V full. "400 V class" is the industry convention that covers 355 V nominal packs and clearly distinguishes them from 697 V "800 V class" packs.

What is the IG3 wake signal and why is it required?

IG3 is a Hyundai Motor Group ignition-status signal that the vehicle asserts on a low-voltage line to the pack. Without it the BMS remains in deep sleep and does not respond to CAN. BMS-EV synthesises the signal internally and drives it out on a dedicated pin to the pack wake connector.

How is precharge sequenced on E-GMP + Deye?

The BMS-EV controller commands the pack's own precharge contactor via CAN, waits for the Deye DC bus to reach within 5 % of pack voltage, then commands the main contactors closed and precharge open. Total sequence duration is typically 500–900 ms.

What Deye configuration settings do I use on the LCD?

Battery type: "Pylon". Battery capacity: enter the pack's rated Ah (approximately 160 Ah for a 58 kWh 96s pack). BMS communication: CAN. Firmware from 2022 onwards is compatible.

Do I need to remove any modules from a 192s pack to make it into a 96s pack?

No — never attempt this. Removing modules from an intact E-GMP pack breaks the BMS's expected cell count, invalidates isolation monitoring, and creates a serious fire and electrocution hazard. Use the pack as it was manufactured or choose a different pack.

Where are 96s E-GMP packs typically sourced?

South Korean domestic-market Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 Standard Range, Australian Ioniq 5 SE, and select 2022–2023 European market Standard Range Ioniq 5 packs. Availability varies; check with your battery supplier for current stock.
