VW MEB + GoodWe EH / ET Integration

Reusing a Volkswagen MEB battery pack (ID.3, ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, Audi Q4 e-tron) with a GoodWe EH single-phase or ET three-phase hybrid inverter. Covers both NMC and LFP MEB variants.

Short answer. A VW MEB pack (48/62/77/82 kWh, 310–460 V DC on NMC; ~290–365 V on LFP) fits inside the GoodWe EH single-phase battery input of 100–500 V and the ET three-phase battery input of 180–600 V. The BMS-EV controller emulates a BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS stack — GoodWe supports this natively. Chemistry (NMC vs LFP) is auto-detected from the MEB BMS.

Both GoodWe families cover the full MEB voltage range across chemistries. GoodWe EH is well suited to smaller MEB installations (55–62 kWh, single-phase homes); ET suits larger 77–82 kWh packs and three-phase homes.

CAN protocol mapping

GoodWe EH and ET both accept BYD Battery-Box Premium HV protocol on the BMS-CAN port at 500 kbps:

Installation requirements

Engineering values below are examples. Final conductor cross-section and protective-device sizing must be calculated for the actual pack, maximum current, cable length, installation method, ambient temperature and applicable local standards (IEC 60364-7-712, VDE-AR-N 4105, NEC 690).

FAQ

GoodWe EH or ET for MEB?

EH for single-phase homes and ≤8 kW installations. ET for three-phase homes or if you want >8 kW charge/discharge. ET's higher voltage window also gives more headroom for NMC MEB.

Does GoodWe accept BYD Battery-Box Premium HV directly?

Yes. BYD Premium HV is a native option in GoodWe SEMS Portal. BMS-EV emulates the stack behaviour so GoodWe sees no difference from a genuine BYD installation.

How does chemistry auto-detect work?

MEB BMS reports chemistry ID on the vehicle CAN bus. BMS-EV reads this at boot and configures voltage envelopes and cell balancing thresholds automatically — no manual setup.

Can I combine MEB battery with GoodWe PV MPPTs?

Yes. GoodWe EH and ET are hybrid inverters with independent PV inputs. Solar and battery share the AC output.

Is off-grid / BPS backup supported?

Yes. GoodWe ET has 100% unbalanced backup with a Backup Box add-on. Discharge current is sized to the MEB BMS limit BMS-EV reports.

How much does a used MEB pack cost?

77–82 kWh MEB packs are ~€4 000–€6 500 in Europe at the time of writing; 55 kWh LFP typically €2 500–€3 500. Prices trend downward as more MEB vehicles reach salvage yards.

Does the MEB pack need a coolant loop?

Not for typical low-cycle stationary use (≤0.3C). At higher C-rates (large 30 kW GoodWe with small 55 kWh pack), a passive fan or coolant loop is recommended in summer.
